Geotechnical Problem Solver

We are adding a Geotechnical Engineer or Civil Engineer with Geotechnical experience to our team to support private sector environmental remediation projects.   This is a great opportunity for you to work as a team, with other engineers, and scientists, to provide comprehensive geotechnical services and solutions to our clients for complex contamination issues.  If you seek to build on the foundation of your career, by working with subject matter experts in the field who have a passion for the environment and for safety, this is the opportunity for you!   Our engineers perform research, analysis, and may work in the office, out in the field at client sites, and in the lab.  You can work on projects focused above ground, below ground, around water, in water and help protect the public and the environment!

In this role, you will work on projects, as a team member of larger projects with the support of our team of senior engineers.  We expect you to be a creative and innovative thinker, anticipate problems, have a passion for safety and want to preserve the environment.  Expect to perform calculations and modeling, and analyze data, to determine the best method of remediation for a complex contamination problem.  Our projects involve great complexity to solve soil and slope problems, foundation issues, and identifying changes needed to stabilize buildings and other major structures, while performing remediation.

In addition to the technical skills required for geotechnical analysis and design, this position offers the opportunity for the candidate to advance to project management, by progressing through Parsons Project Management Certification Program.  The graduate of the PMC program will have opportunity to manage remediation projects of their own.

Your Key Responsibilities

  • Use knowledge of general concepts of relevant geotechnical and civil engineering elements for remediation projects that may include landfills, hazardous waste site remediation and closure.   This may involve all stages from investigation to design to remedial action to construction management.   Considerations include slope elevation, landside hazards, soil/bentonite slurry walls, sheet pile barrier walls, pond remediation and closure, civil earthwork and grading, EPA and environmental regulations, interferences from organic, metal and other contaminants, and utility considerations.
  • Assists team in preparing civil and geotechnical designs, drawings, specifications, presentations and reports
  • Preparing standard engineering material quality takeoffs, estimates, surveys and designs
  • Conducts basic hand calculations and modeling
  • May perform field work related to pilot test and/or construction related activities
  • Assists in supporting the civil team in providing support services during construction that can include submittal reviews, responses to requests for information and contract document clarifications
  • Provide input and technical guidance to CAD designers/drafters working on the project

Job Requirements

  • 4-year degree in a Civil engineering curriculum, advanced degree preferred

  • 12-15 years relevant industry experience in geotechnical analysis, slope stability, barrier wall design, remedial construction, grading design, erosion control, stormwater design, slope design, for site development projects, transportation, or environmental projects

  • Experience with Landfill design or environmental remediation highly desirable

  • Professional Engineer (PE) license preferable or willingness to obtain PE license as soon as possible

  • Preferable 40-hour OSHA HAZWOPER Certification and valid refresher course.
