Position Title: Senior Systems Engineer, Architecture & Assessment

Position Overview:

Provide systems engineering support to the Ground-Based Interceptor (GBI) Project Office Systems Engineering. Develop briefings for technical and programmatic leadership on systems engineering challenges/issues and provide well thought out recommended solutions. Develop, coordinate, document, and implement systems engineering technical processes for the GBI Project Office. Become very familiar with Ground Based Midcourse systems engineering processes and procedures and gain a thorough understanding of the Systems Engineering Plans (SEP), Configuration Management Plans (CMP), Data Management Plans (DMP), Risk Management Plans (RMP), Verification Plans (VP), etc. Coordinate systems engineering with other GMD organizations to ensure alignment and consistency with the GMD Program Office in support of All Up Round Lead Systems Engineer.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead the formulation and evaluation of GBI operations concepts and architectures, including GBI functionality, behaviors, and internal and external interactions.
  • Provide feedback and guidance to the Industry team responsible for executing and documenting the architecture
  • As the GBI architecture lead, coordinate changes and improvements to the GBI Operations Concept Document and GBI Architecture Description Document. Maintain understanding of GBI functional, performance, and interface requirements, evaluate changes in operations concepts and architecture to GBI requirements, identify impacts arising from differences between architecture and requirements baseline, and coordinate recommendations for resolving those differences.
  • Propose, evaluate, document, monitor, and brief risks, watch items, and issues relating to the systems engineering processes, operations concepts, and architectures for the GBI Project Office.
  • Create and update risk quad charts and coordinate content with the GBI team members.
  • Brief GBI Project Office technical and programmatic leadership on systems engineering technical challenges, risks, and issues
  • Support the planning and execution of milestone technical reviews (e.g., SRR, PDR, CDR) for the GMD Program and GBI Project Offices relating to the GBI operations concept, architecture, and requirements and interfaces. Review and provide feedback to tailoring of technical review entrance and exit criteria, technical review plan, presentation material, and objective evidence
  • Provide Risk Analysis support
  • Travel to support oversight, meetings, reviews, etc.

Qualifications/Education/Experience:

The ideal candidate will have experience with Ground Based Midcourse Defense (GMD) Systems Engineering and Integration and should have the following experience/skill set:

  • Solid understanding and practical experience formulating technical processes (systems engineering, configuration management, data management, and risk management) for large, complex programs
  • Practical experience planning and implementing milestone technical reviews for large, complex programs
  • Familiarity and understanding of Industry and DOD systems engineering standards such as DOD 5000.02, IEEE 15288, MIL-STD-961, and MIL-HDBK-61
  • Knowledge of SysML standard for documenting system architectures
  • Ability to use/navigate IBM DOORS requirements database
  • Solid technical writing and presentation development capability
  • Experience with Microsoft Windows and Microsoft Office products (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Outlook)
  • Self-starter who can identify challenges, search out solutions, recommend courses of action to leadership, and implement leadership direction
  • Strong coordination, organization, oral and written communication skills
  • Secret Clearance required
  • Bachelors of Science degree in a science, math or engineering discipline
  • 10+ years of engineering experience in aerospace/defense industry desired
  • 2+ years of experience on GMD Program desired
  • Familiarity with GMD components (GFC, GBI, EKV)

Must be eligible to obtain and maintain, or currently possess Secret clearance.
