NEED:

Parsons seeks a chemist to carry out laboratory analyses of groundwater, surface water and waste in an onsite laboratory. Applicant will also carry out data validation and quality assurance/quality control efforts. Applicant may also be involved in the development of project Work Plans, Quality Assurance Project Plans, and the tracking of data from the field to the laboratory and into reporting. Specific responsibilities will include the following:

  • Perform prep-work and analyses on environmental water samples
  • Use specialized equipment to monitor and analyze samples
  • Work within established SOPs and QA/QC protocols
  • Accountable for accuracy of results and data entry, following standard SOPs and QA/QC protocols
  • Collection of data according to prescribed procedures, processes and standards
  • Measurement of field parameters
  • Assist with field collection of water samples
  • Handle simple, routine problems without supervision
  • Consult with supervisor regarding routine and non-routine problems
  • Preparation of notes and observations
  • Entering and validation of data in various software
  • Assist with management of environmental data
  • Assist with preparation of technical reports

Perform other duties as assigned.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

  • Post-secondary education, B.Sc. or M.Sc. degree
  • Experience in operating a variety of analytical instruments including ICP-OMS and AA
  • Experience with relevant instrument software packages
  • Must demonstrate analytical problem solving skills; working on problems of diverse scope where analysis of data requires evaluation of identifiable factors
  • Must demonstrate good judgment within generally defined practices and policies in selecting methods and techniques for obtaining solutions
  • Must demonstrate good laboratory skills and solid knowledge with inorganic testing and requirements
  • Must demonstrate good housekeeping and ability to keep work area organized and clean
  • Must demonstrate experience working with and knowledge of standard AWWA analytical methods
  • Experience with CALA accreditation processes
  • Experience in planning and conducting environmental investigations preferred
  • Ability to lift up to 20 kg
  • Valid class 5 driver’s license
  • Computer Skills -Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, etc.)
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
  • Good organizational skills, with ability to manage and prioritize several assignments simultaneously
  • Proven ability to concentrate, pay attention to detail, organize, priority set and be a team player
  • Proven understanding of safe work practices and mitigating risk
  • Ability to work with little supervision and function in a multidiscipline environment
  • Proven ability to live and work in northern environment
